Lecture by Dr. Mellissa Withers on “Politics, Public Health, and the Pandemic” during the 2021 PMRN General Assembly

Dr. Mellissa Withers, Executive Director of the Global Health Program, presented her lecture entitled “Politics, Public Health, and the Pandemic: How Immigrants in the United States Have Been Impacted” during the 2021 Philippine Migration Research Network General Assembly held last March 1-2, 2021. Her talk focuses on the vulnerability of immigrants in the US to COVID-19 and its aftermath, including overcrowded housing, weak labor protection, lack of health care, among others. She will also touched on the role of research and data in crafting informed and relevant immigration policies, as well as building a just and equitable society for immigrants and migrant workers in the US.

During the General Assembly, PMRN has also launched its book, “Looking Back, Moving Forward: Philippine Migration Issues, Policies, and Narratives,” featuring eight articles from an impressive array of scholars and researchers, each of whom has done extensive work on migration.
