With the launch of PSSC’s online courses on Digital Approaches to Social Science Research, let’s take a look at how Executive Director Dr. Lourdes M. Portus discussed ways to develop quality research during her lecture at the Asia Pacific Consortium of Researchers and Educators (APCORE) Convention and International Conference held on September 19 to 20, 2019 at the Hotel Jen Manila.
In this lecture, Dr. Portus underscored that quality researchers and quality research are inseparable, and products of “a long, arduous and zealous struggle and practice.” The experienced researcher and communicator shared anecdotes and her personal involvements in social science research, and how these shaped her mindset that a quality research is an ethical one.
The Chair of PSSC’s Social Science Ethics Review Board also discussed the building blocks of a good and ethical research. These include developing a solid research plan, framework, appropriate methodology and analytical tools consistent with the study objectives, and ensuring the welfare, privacy and proper representation of participants.
Dr. Portus equally gave importance to the creation of research from a critical lens and with a socially relevant objective to give voice to the vulnerable and marginalized.
